I/we chose not to get the Hazardous Material Endorsement due to the fact that our Liability Insurance premium would increase and also the fact that the loads that require a hazmat endorsement do not pay any more or not enough more to justify the cost of the insurance.
As far as the test goes just study the booklet it's not that hard.
