One thing to lessen battery terminal corrosion, is to be very gentle with the battery posts. No pounding or twisting clamps loose from the post with a pliars. The post is glued into the plastic battery top with a glue that prevents battery acid from wicking / splashing up the internal posts, through the top seal to the terminals. Rough handling of the battery posts can break this glue bond and allow constant wetting of the posts and cables with battery acid from the interior of the battery, causing unnecessary corrosion troubles.
The oil soaked felt washers help fix the problem by coating the post cable clamp and battery top with heavy oil, which helos repel the acid / water electrolyte mix.
