I work in the oilfields of Alaska. When the pipeline was built part of the permitting to allow it to be built was the oil had to be hauled on US flagged tankers and delivered to US ports. I think the law allowed for up to 60,000 bbls. per day to be siphoned off for refineries in Alaska. Part of that original law was changed when Pres. Clinton was in office but I think its still pretty much the same. We're shipping around 700,000 bbls. per day now. Just got home from the slope. Was -53 the last week, that's hard on men and equipment!
