sports, sports, sports.
America is awash in sports.
People can remember who won the World Series in 1953 but can't tell you what the Spooner amendment was. They can tell you who was the Jet's first round draft pick in 1985 but can't tell you a thing about the Highway act of 1956.
They know who Willie Mays was but can't tell you who Douglas MacArthur or John Pershing were.
Or who were the Grangers and what did they do?

When did Americans start electing their Senators?
And why?

Americans can tell you who all the major quarterbacks are this year (and last year and the year before) but can't name their US Senators or Legislators or even the VP for cripesake.
If they spent the equivalent time of one foot ball game learning about their legislatures and what they are up to we would be a better nation for it. We whine and curse and complain about new laws but never write a letter to our governors.
But we can sure talk about sports. Oh yeah. Lots of talk about sports. 43 sports channels on cable TV and 5 channels dedicated to news and politics.
Wake up America.
Wake up!
We are shirking our responsibilitiy to be an informed public citizenry.
We are allowing an elite political class to encroach upon our rights and make our laws because we are too distracted by sports.
The presumption is that sports talk is ok anywhere, everywhere, all the time.
Enough of sports already.
Enough!
There is no where one can go and not be bombarded by sports talk. No where!
It's insidious.
Tractor Talk is the last hideout for us sports haters.
Please don't make it just another of thousands of places to go to hash out your darned games.
Please.
There, I've had my say so have yours.
Flame me or flag me as you will.
I can take your wrath.
But I can not take your sports.
