Might be possible to put a 'farm worker/ child's' home out on the farm here, but it is with some difficulty.
In general having the parcels seperate is a better way to go in the long run anyhow, for the resons mentioned and more.
I'm sure the govt enjoys the revenue as well; tho property taxes could be less in many stated with the seperate parcels.
In my county in my state you need 2.5 acres min to put up a house with septic, and 5 acre min to have a house & horses.
Plan your dividing so it fits the codes and future selling - what kids plan today often changes in a decade or so, might as well have it divided right from the get go. Shared driveways are a _mess_ over the long haul, get seperate access to public road.
