OK, the problem of no heat in the cab has been found, and it is the head gasket. For a refresher, I bought this tractor from a dealer, drove it home, there was no cab heat, they found it was blowing air with just a little anti-freze up to the heater. Now the head is off and the proof is evident. The dealer is being very generous with me on the head work so I have no problem with it at all. The cylinder liners have a very small wear lip and some of the hatch marks are still there, but #4 liner shows signs of anti-freeze sitting on the piston. There are three slightly rough rings around the liner because of it. The shop foreman doesn't think it's anything to worry about, but I'm going to have them throw in sleeves and pistons anyway. This is going to be a hard working field tractor. Everything below the head will be on my dime but it's this far down anyway.
The only thing that worries me is the gasket's fire ring on #6 was just beginning to blow through in one tiny spot. I hope the sleeve land isn't receded beyond specs.
I'm gonna have a little more money in the old girl but the price was right when I bought it so I'm still OK on it. Jim
