I do like the idea of keeping it original. I am really considering doing just that. You are right when you say that they are becoming rare when they are in there original "work clothes" and when you can see the original stenciling. I will put on new tires as the ones on it are shot. I plan on rebuilding the engine and making it run like it was new. Another good reason to keep it original is that it won't hurt the wallet as much as it would by putting a fresh coat of paint on it.
