While I believe that man has the resources and potential to fully destroy our environment, I do not buy in to the "average" anything when it comes to weather. If you look back far enough, it likely has been as cold or as hot. The "average" gives weather people something to chew on and make them seem somewhat in charge of their game. Yes we can now take computer models and do some decent forecasting, but it is going to be what it is going to be, regardless of what anyone can dredge up for an "average". There is a town south of Orlando, FL, that was named "Frostproof" years ago. The name was a marketing ploy to convince potential landowners that the town has never had, and never would have, a frost that could destroy the large citrus-driven economy. However, only a couple of years later, a terrible frost killed most of the citrus in Frostproof, FL. If we just accept the fact that "average" means nothing more than a math calculation, we would be much better off.
