Your comments show exactly how much you don't know about the newer equipment. Sure you can read the books and see what the mfgs and the government says about the new technology, we can all do that. Thing is it's us "Jacklegs" out ther working on the stuff that see the real story. Did you know many trucks wind up in the shop right off the assembly line with problems? Did you know that with the new systems, even if you just got to the job job site and the regen light comes on you really need to pass the job site by and keep driving until the system completes it's cycle? Did you know that with the two staged turbo set ups if one goes your most likely looking at both turbos getting screwed up thus doubling the repair cost? Did you know that if you let your truck idle too long (like many service vehicles do) that it will shutdown because the system can't regen with the exhaust temps too low?

These are just a few of the things that us "jacklegs" know because we either see it or learn about it talking to the other "jacklegs" that work at the dealerships. On that note try calling a dealership sometime and asking a real question about something. Many of the new breed of "technicians" don't know anything but what the book says. If the book doesn't spell it out for them or the computer doesn't tell them what part to repace they are absolutely lost......Us "jacklegs" aren't getting left behind, we're just coming into our own as these new 'technicians' run out of parts to change and eventually have to call a real mechanic like myself. Granted I don't know it all, and anyone that says they do is full of $hit, but I view every day as a new learning experience and utilize any exprience I gain to the best of my ability in the pursuit of even more knowledge.

As far as my "failed" business, where did you get that idea? True things are slow for me as they are for everyone but failed...I don't think so. Granted I took another job a few months back to insure a steady check each week but I still maintained my own business. When the new job ended due to that companies failure I hit the ground running and am right back on my own recruiting new customers and doing all I can do to earn a living. If you think that's a failure then all I can say is I hope you get fired tomorrow and see where it leaves you when there are still bills to pay and no money coming in.........I've made it without ANY government assistance, including unemployeement, could you?????

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
