Check the condition of your battery cables.
The JD new generation gas engines come with the pathetically weak Delco 10 MT starter. Cranking is very slow and weak, the starters are short lived because they have to work so hard to turn the engine and hydraulic pump. The 10MT heavy duty is a little better, but not much. The real fix is to install a Delco 20 MT starter. It is a direct replacement and has twice the power of the 10 MT series. Great cranking speed under almost any conditions and so underworked that it will last a very long time. After 20 years of poor cranking and a half dozen worn out. burned up 10 series starters, I converted my 4020 gas to the 20 MT starter. Gives it the starting power it should have had from new.
