I have seen what may be the cause. Sometimes methanol is used for fluid. That is the fluid you describe, what causes the corrosion is the fact that tire service companies do not clean up their equipment, when going from CaCl3, to methanol, and vice versa. If they do not rinse out the hoses, it is easy to cross contaminate methanol and CaCl3. For proof, I was driving an old tractor, with filled tires, that I knew were full of methanol, cause I had watched the tire co fill them years ago. This particular tube managed to stick itself out the side of the tire, through a crack in the sidewall. I started to hear a clickky clickky noise coming from the fender area, looked down, at the exact moment the tube hit the fender, with enough force for the fender to cut through the tube, and give me a 70 gallon bath in methanol. As I dried my face off, I could taste the CaCl3!
