I can't speak for others, but my wife and I have a fleet of "winter only" cars and trucks, and the rest that never see road salt at all. They ALL get used, but not all at the same time.
Makes no sense to me to drive a rust-free diesel truck on salty roads, to watch it rust, when a new one can cost near $50,000.
I can drive a "throw-away" 4WD rust-bucket and not worry what happens to it. When it rusts so bad the frame breaks and the doors near fall off- I save it for parts and start driving another beater.
Works fine for us, and we never have car payments or collison auto insurance. Between the two of us, we always have five on the road. Five winter beaters, and give rust-free non-winter rigs. If one needs work, we just drive something different. No need for rentals, or leaving it at the shop for repairs, etc. Drive something else and fix it in my shop when I feel like it.
