I'm sure your concerns about cold weather (insulation, frost, heat, etc.) are different than here in MN, but my friend who works in concrete is always recommending building "pole-barn"-style steel buildings on single-pour floating slabs. Nothing can beat the steel-on-pine material costs of pole-barn style buildings. Take the concrete man's opinion for what it's worth, because the concrete costs are higher for a floating slab than pouring a slab inside of a true pole-barn, but there are clear benefits when it comes to how the building stands up to frost heave. Probably not a big concern in SC though :)
