I was in high school in my woodworking class. I heard the shop door open and upon looking up saw the janitor and could immediately tell that he was very worked up and had been crying.
He quietly told the shop teacher who then gathered us around him and informed us. He then went over to the big old upright radio that he used in the evening and we then listened to the news broadcasts until the class ended. Pretty sobering.
On the day of the funeral those that wished to walked a block to the Superintendent's home and watched the funeral event on television. Very small school and we crowed into the living and dining rooms so all could see.
