I worked for Ford and watched as they shed costs in the 90's in preparation for the overcapacity and tough market conditions that were ahead. Ford has put a huge effort into repairing their poor quality reputation. They now have verifyable high quality products not just some smoke and mirror claim of high quality. It took and still is taking a major change in the thinking of the boys at the top to bring that new business philosophy into practice. They had to get rid of most of the old school guys.
