A lot of fake "security software" these days spreads like a virus and then tries to scare you into forking over some money to "fix" the problems on your PC.
I work on PCs daily and that sort of garbage can range from fairly-easy to remove to need-to-reinstall-Windows to fix.
Malwarebytes really does a good job of removing a lot of that garbage. Sometimes in a tough case, if you"ve been able to get Malwarebytes installed in the first place, you can just turn the PC off for a week or so, then fire it back up, update Malwarebytes to the latest version, and then run it and it will by then know how to remove the threat.
