2500-3500 rpm with the throttle closed will be seen as an error, that's way past a fast idle. To dump enough fuel to cause that rpm when the throttle is at idle will definitely flag some sensor values as out of range - it'll be throwing lean codes at least. The only way that wouldn't throw codes if it's some sort of mechanical problem, or problem with the pedal/throttle sensor, i.e. the computer thinks someone is telling it to run that fast.
