baking soda media is less aggressive that aluminum oxide, sand, crushed glass ect. it doesnt warp sheet metal like the more aggressive media's. it does not remove rust, but strips paint well. also, water dissolves it, easy to clean up. food grade will work fine if you have a source, also an ag supplier will also have it in bulk.
