Heritage Iron in January did a feature on the 97, they said it was rated as a 7 bottom tractor.
I ran a Massey 1100 with an 880 six bottom many years ago, as those tractors are similar in horsepower I would think you would be ok with a six but I'll bet it would pour the smoke out of it.
