Clean the crud out of the air side of the radiator, only fill the radiator to about 1/4" over the top of the core( the rest of the volume is for fluid expansion); make sure that the water pump drive belt is tight, the radiator cap is a 7 psi cap and is working properly; make sure that your timing is set correctly (6 oBTDC), and that your carb powwer jet adjustment is >/= to one full turn out from full closed. Check to make sure that you don"t have gas bubbles in the coolant. If you do, your head gasket is leaking or you have a crack in the water jacket( head or block). And finally, make sure that the lower rad hose is not collapsing at high engine speed.
The oil you are using needs to be the correct SAE grade and API classification for lubrication but will not cause overheating unless you crankcase oil level is very low.
