As well as lubricating your engine the oil also removes contaminants so changing it more often than recommended surely can't hurt!
I seem to be doing pretty much the same as others, the tractor got a complete tune up and oil change.........my pickup on the other hand, before a 10 hour round trip to pick up a horse, I checked all the critical fluids and here is what I found:
The engine oil was low, probably due to the fact that it was 3000km overdue for an oil change. The coolant level was low, non existent in the expansion tank and low in the rad.
The tractor gets checked every 2nd or third time I get on it! Something I got from my Dad. Critical fluids were checked EVERY time he used his equipment. In his opinion it was very cheap insurance against an expensive break down.
