Do what you will with your sick chickens, I still think it would make a dandy Bloody Mary.
That learned treatise on capsaisan in the original post reminded me of when I was in Basic Training in the Army- one kid was a Cajun from rural Louisana- Rocco Luierre- and got a care package. Included was a jar of little bluish green peppers. He was leaning his head back and taking them gingerly between his teeth and eating them, exclaiming how wonderful they were. Other guys wanted some- he was reluctant- "They're really hot"- but one smart-a$$ insisted. He just ate it like you would anything else, and (besides the screams of pain), big water blisters appeared on his lips. Rocky said, "Whats the matter with you? Don't you know anything? You can't eat them like that- they can only touch your tongue and gums, otherwise you'll blister. I'm not wasting any more of these on you."
Somehow, I don't think the other guy was disappointed that he'd get no more of those little devils.
