My brother just got a very good welder/generator given to him. It has only been used 25 hours. The original owner had it installed as a backup generator. The welder has never been used. The original owner died and his widow never used it. It had not been ran in almost twenty years. It was inside the back of a garage. He got it given to him in return for some house repair work. We drained the gas and cleaned/rebuilt the carburetor. It starts and runs like new. The problem is that neither the welder or the generator will generate current. We took it all apart. The slip rings and winding are perfect. This unit(Lincoln) was new in 1987. It does not have any electronics on it. I saw a posting last week that referred to a generator or welder losing polarization after setting for long periods. That posting did not go into any details. I searched the old posting and did not find how to do it either. So how do we go about re-polarizing this welder/generator??
