Several guys around here have built rollers that run down the stalks. They just build a roller about a foot wide with a 1" shaft in it (usually a 6" well casing). Then they build a U frame out of 3" channel iron. The open end gets a pivot mount made up under the gear case. They then have a chain on each side to pick them up when you lift the head. Some have a spring for down pressure but most just made the roller heavy enough to roll them down.
