Ah yes, a good old black snake. We have them down here too, and I leave them alone. If you let him live, he will keep any and all rats or mice from chewing up the wiring on your Oliver! Once he's eaten the pests, he will move along to a better location. Be sure and thank him for his services! BTW, I don't like snakes as a rule. I've killed several little coral snakes, but when I see an all black snake I just move away and let him be. They are more afraid of you than you think. If you come after them with a shovel or whatever handy tool you have, you bet they will try to defend themselves.
