Just heard on the radio that a third of the folks who finally get kicked off unemployment find jobs within ONE WEEK!
My secretary's husband was on unemployment for almost 2 years- got kicked off before they extended it to 99 weeks, and found work within 3 weeks. She was relieved he got kicked off- She was worried about him becoming a permanent couch spud- his income from unemployment for 2009 was $27,000! The combination of unemployment compensation plus not having to buy child care amounted to more spendable income than he could have made at real work. Now that he's back to work, he's glad, as well- it was getting boring, watching the kids and the History channel all day!
