Can't speak to the Allis D19 engine, but I had the same thing happen on the Perkins in my shrimp boat a few years back and it was the lower seal on the injection pump. Had to remove the pump and replace the seal...no problems after that. Don't bump the engine over until you get the pump back in and don't rotate the pump doing the fix or if you get a shop to do the seal replacement, ask them to keep the pump in the same position when delivered...
