Ok: In July 1955 I had just graduated from hi school and was staying on the farm to help my dad. I approached him for some money and he went down to the local junk yard and drug this old Lincoln Cosmopolit5an home and let me have it to drive and forgot about the money part i guess. Well it was handy as I never had a car so I drove it for a week or so until it started to act up. My buddy and I took it to one of the old horse barns on the farm and tore the motor down to find out what was wrong,so in walks my dad and he proceeded to have a fit that we had wrecked "HIS" car. He demanded we put it back together and have it running the next day.Well ,Artie and I sat and looked at each other for awhile and I asked Artie,"Do you remember how it came apart"? Arties answer was "NO".Mine the same. The next day July 27,1955 I had MOM take me to town,I told her what happened ,she never said a word except to ask me where I was going and I told her that I was joining the Marines. She started to cry but signed the papers as asked and then took me home. I had Artie take me around to say Bye to every one including my steady and July 28,1955 I took the train to Chicago,got inducted,I an a lot of other fellows went to Midway Air port and got on a Super G Constellation plane and flew over nite to San Diego and 8 years later in July 28,1963 I accepted a Honorable discharge and became a official civilian again with a whole different attitude to go with it.The steady I talked about is in the next room watching TV at the moment. Artie got Cancer and died 3 years ago. I'm looking at 73 years of age in a couple of weeks. I've had a happy and fairly successful life,I have 3 successful children and 4 bueatiful Grand children .I have no complaints but I often wonder what would have happened if my dad had not ordered me and Artie to put that old V12 Lincoln motor back together.
