I like the two tapered spears that you stick the bale with. The ones you go under with are hard on the hay and bust the net. The single ones break on real heavy bales. A real good heat treated tapered spear is worth the investment. Straight spears are harder to get into the hay and pull out harder.
A good supplier of spears and sockets, Plus complete units if you want, is Tri-L. I have a pair of there heavy duty spears. They are rated at 2900 lbs. each. I have moved thousands of bales of hay and stalks with mine. Here is a link.
