Sorry for the late post. Sounds like you have a 1955-1964 (62 on vette I think) Chevy passenger car rear end. They were front loading pumpkins, just like an 8 or 9" ford.
They are 17 spline. Are you sure you have 17 or 18? And the ring gear is 8.20".
