The original manifold was for use with distillate fuel, therefore the intake runner was surrounded by the exhaust chamber which warmed the incoming fuel/air mixture. The gasoline (cold) manifold isolated the intake runner and so doesn't warm the fuel/air mix as the all-fuel manifold did. If you are using gasoline only, the cold manifold would probably help some, and maybe with the spluttering you mention. The cold manifold came about when Deere offered the horsepower upgrade for G's when 70's came out. Along with the manifold, the block was usually bored .125 over and higher compression aluminum pistons were installed. Original G's were rated at 39 HP, and after the upgrade, many dyno'd over 50 Hp.
