I probably shouldn't tell anyone this...but the word out in the techy circles is that the USB device, mine is an Ovation MC760, contain not just a receiver but a transmitter. Thats right. Once you plug that modem into your drive and establish "contact"..ie. internet connection, a signal goes out to a receiver in dc...which is sent to a tac room in the big house. Newer ones will not only transmit everything you look at on the internet, but a "snik", an I.D. signal that the satellites can separate from the rest of the traffic and pinpoint your exact location on the earth.
The tree huggers want to know a little bit more about the, uh, country folk before implementing the plan.
