The data plate should be on the underside of the rad fill door. Later on I think they started putting a data plate on the side of the dash inside the right door. Just open the door and look straight ahead... Failing that the numbers should be stamped into the transmission housing on a flat spot aft of the starter. Not so easy to see on a 77.
