You and your son have a world of info at your finger tips. ya just need to do your research on your computer. Alot of info being put out on this thread is erroneous at best, all good variable scope have internal parallax adjustments for powers up to 12X and higher end scope higher powers. If a variable scope up to 12X does not have internal parllax adjustment, leave it in the store or send it back to China. The large or smaller objective lense, main purpose for the larger objective is to allow the scope to acquire more light in low light conditions. I know that both my 300 Win Mag and 338 win. mag have far more recoil than my 12 gauge mag shotgun.
