Some unions are very beneficial and there are alot of good people in them, including many of my friends. The bad part is if they decide to go on strike the good workers that would just work are out picketing loosing money for them and their family, jeopardizing their livliehood, if the deals dont work out they will be out a job. As for their union dues, they chose to join the union, so that is their obligation to pay the dues because they know this is part of it before joining. Another perk is the unemployment. A guy who feels like working a month out of twelve, while their union brothers are working seven days a week 10 hour days 11 months out of the year, shouldnt get to make 50 grand a year sitting at the house because they may not want to work. I understand that with slow economic times some craft work is down and some unemployment is inevetible. I also realize that there is a difference between craft unions and plant unions.
