We had a really early spring here in Southern New Hampshire, animals on pasture by early April, lots of moisture. First crop harvest started early before the grass had grown to full yield as it started to mature real early. So our first crop yields were low often at less than 75%. And it hasn't rained in 7-8 weeks so in most cases there is no second crop. Even alfalfa is starting to wilt before it is ready to cut again. Pasture is totally burned and we are now feeding winter hay. Leaves on trees are already starting to yellow and all the brush and vines are wilted. Also our well is dry and we are hauling water.
We're at the point of cutting the production sheep flock by 60% (they are all bred back), shipping all the weaned lambs early and eliminating all but one pleasure horse, unless things change in the next two weeks.
