just was thinking about something I saw at a place a few years ago. Guy had a barrel of white pellets (not real fine but not real coarse either).
He kept a bunch of horses and in a big feedlot with a packed limestone flooring would spread woodchips 3 or so inches thick. The white stuff would be sprinkled on top and raked lightly so it would fall through the chips.
Then, when it would rain, the stuff would suck up water and turn to a kind of gel and swell up. You could feel that it was wet and cold, buy your hands wouldn't come away wet.
Anything like it in the States? Real expensive here.
