: my father and I recently purchased what we have been told is a 1964 david brown 990. the problem we have is that the hydraulics are not working. according to the previous owner they worked up until the time that he changed the hyd oil and haven't worked since. i anyone could tell me how to go about troublshooting this probelm or where to look it would be most appreciated.this tractor although it has been neglected seems to be infairly sound shape needing only some elbow G and tlc and a bunch of paint as i'm quite sure that they were never manufactured in rust red.

Hi Randy
you shouuld start looking at the problem by checking to see firstly if the pump is being driven ok and shaft is not broken. if not check for pump flow. if no flow pump is problem. if you have flow check pressure. should be able to attach gauge to points on top of transmission housing. once you have flow and pressure it should be a valve problem
