If the needles are just a little out of time they will trip close enough to the plunger that the stop can't stop it. Then the needles come up through the last flake of hay instead of the plunger slot. Then since the hay can't fit through the plunger slot the needles get broke. You need to check the chains and count all the links. I have had them drive me crazy only to find that someone shorten/lengthen the chains. Then time it by the book. It is not hard to do and will save you big money on broken parts.
