i am only 21 but when i did work for walmart ( i didnt have a job and needed one ) i cared about what i did (i worked in the tire and oil change shop) i would not follow there rules because it was the correct way to service the vehicle the "correct way/walmart way" was for tire work all wheel studs got antisieze on them well i know 99% of owners manuals say that wheel studs should not be lubricated! i told the district manager about this and said i could prove that when you torqued a bolt etc with lubricant on it the tq value should be decreased she told me i was wrong and that was not correct ! ! one of the stupid "rules" was that we had a book published by pennzoil or what ever that said the "correct" amount of oil for a vehicle you were suppose to put this amount in and basicly not look at the dipstick if it was low you were not suppose to put more in if it was over you were not suppose to drain it!! i know of one engine off hand that is in a ford f150 that the pennzoil book said 6 qts it was still a qt low so out of curiosity i looked in the owners manual and sure enuff the correct amount is 7 qts! they "make you " torque drain plugs -because most people who work there dont know that when you tighten aluminum pans they will strip easier than steel- some of there tqs were just rediculus though i know they said that a chevy aveo was suppose to be tqd to like 40 FT LBS ! and duramax was like 70! there still steel oil pans why do they need to be so high!? also the lug nuts were supposed to be torqued 3 times one time by tire tech one by second person and then drive in figure 8 and re tq i can understand 2 times but it is only because theyve had too many wheels fall off only tqing onece another "procedure" was you had to wear a "burn sleeve" on every oil change i would not wear one because if you can imagine taking a long underwear sleeve and puting it on then dump 200 degree oil on it..... have fun taking it off!!! id rather momentarly touch a muffler or cat or pipe than have to try to peel off a buring oil soaked sleeve. i explained this to my manager once that asked me why i wasnt wearing my hard hat and burn sleeve when draining the oil on a car i said here put this sleeve on and then let me drain this car on it then take it off she was like well you still need to wear it???? i also told her if i hit my head on something and damage my head its my own dumb fault etc

my final rant will be this here we got a new shop manager he knew so much about cars he supposidly rebuilt engines etc he said

well i drive a f250 superduty and i figured itd be fun to watch him struggle with those wheels etc (there not light) so i brought it in for a rotation that was free well as im working but watching him work on my truck i notice that he is putting my rims on backwards i had my tires on white lettering in and this tire was on white letter out!!!! i let him go figuring well if he screws it up ill get new rims so what ever he torqued it down (using the wrong socket because he wasnt smart enuff to look at more than the first option in the computer) my lugnuts are 13/16 and should be tqd at 160lbs well mr i rebuild cars etc didnt look enuff to realize A. he used a 21mm/13/16 socket to take nuts off B. that a vehicle that has 4 or 5 diff choices of lugnut tq has also diff sized nuts

so he used a tq limiting socket that was 7/8 in and torqued at 140lbs

2 things wrong just with this choice here !!!

well either way he torqued down with the torque socket and a torque wrench before one of my co workers said that it was on backwards

oh and the icing on the cake... the other shop manager was kneeling next to him watching this the entire time!!!!!

just a little hint of what goes on behind the sceens also manytimes a car would come in and they would strip out the pan and say oh no it was striped before we worked on it!!! well why did you take the plug out then????!!!!
