Have a part of pasture cut off for hay. Johnson grass was starting to make headway. Let cows back in. before last frost in spring, kept them on it for 2 years, took them off this spring and noticed one or two sprigs when I cut hay. Conventional wisdom is to leave cows on for 5 years to kill it. However, if you feed hay with Johnson grass seed in it cows will spread it.
If its in a lawn, weekly mowing for a few years will kill it.
If it is in a garden staying after it with a hoe will control it. The stolons(roots) must be dug up.
Killing it with Roundup takes several applications.
