The only businesses I see doing well (surviving!!) here in Michigan are service industries - plumbers, electricians, other trades. Even they have had to take a haircut. And of course. health care folks. Electrolux, a Swedish producer of refrigeration compressors, moved the worlds largest compressor plant from Michigan to Mexico. The state offered to build a new factory and give it to Electrolux. Electrolux refused, stating that they could pay for the new Mexican plant in 2 years, just in labor savings. The Michigan workers were making about $12 per hour, the Mexicans, less than $3. Cheap labor, the gift that keeps giving.
