The 8 voltbatteries and the later 6/12 combos were NEVER ANY GOOD from day 1 but a lot of people did put money and time trying to make them work. If you have the money to spend on an 8 volt you have the money and time to spend trying to make an 8 volt work you can afford to fix the cables and connections to make the 6 volt work although I would go with the 12 volt conversion as that is what I have done on my tractors and I have never regreted it.
