12v will not charge a 12v battery. If you have the 8v battery, hook it up (proper polarity as determined by the voltage it now makes) and see what the charging voltage is with a battery installed. It will take ~10 volts to charge that battery. If it charges at 9 it might do Ok. If it charges at 11 or 12 it will boil the battery. If it is a three brush gen and is charging too low, move the brush closer to the stationary brush. If too high move it farther away. Jim
