We've got an older 5 wheel farmhand style rake, made by Morill out of California. IOt's pretty worn but still works in a good heavy crop and decent in a thinner crop. The oats was just laid right down on the ground though and the wheels just went right over it, not even picking up 1/2.
Borrowed the neighbors newer Gehl 206 6 wheel rake made by Vicon, and holy crap does that thing work nice. It's got the newer style wheels that actually ride on bearings so they stay tight, and the newer style teeth that actually pick up the crop better because they have more flex to them or something. Lots of adjustment on that thing too. even with a 6 wheel rake I was able to rake 2 passes towards each other and they didn't end up on top of each other. That was never possible with our rakes with our 9' machine.
