There are rolling closures of ER's in small hospitals due to a lack of doctors and nurses willing to do the work. I doubt that's much different in the US. It's not to do with a lack of money here. I'd also agree that MRI's are not available in every small town and no doubt some other similar diagnostic equipment, but it is generally available within an hour's drive. One has to keep in mind that the population is quite spread out here relative to the size of the area and there are a lot of older, smaller hospitals... so no, all services are not available in all of those places. It's just not practical. Are you suggesting that every small town of 5000 people has a full service hospital, with MRI, etc in the US?
