First of all, put a 5/16" NC nut on one of the starter bolts so the starter doesn't come apart in 3 pieces.
It DOES come out, it may take some wiggling and jiggling and the removal of the oil filter cannister and the block drain for clearance.
It's common for guys to then attack the hole in the block with a die grinder, elongating it up and to the left to make putting it back in (and removing it next time) easier.
