How do you pronounce Belarus?

A friend of mine has a Belarus tractor and he pronounced it "be LA' rus", as in Polaris. I thought he said Polaris at first. I had always assumed it was pronounced "be la ROOS'" as in the name of the former Soviet republic. Which is correct? Are these good tractors?
Have a happy 4th of July. I'll have my '52 VAC in the local parade pulling a float.
