The N tractors have low compression engines, so you never get very much engine braking effect from them. Some, but not a lot. Their brakes are normally quite good, so if you're brakes are not working well, I'd attend to them. All this depends on what the grade of this hill is, and what's on the surface of it. I've skidded my 8N right into the side of an outbuilding because I was on a moderate slope of wet grass and goose poop. There was no stopping it under those conditions.
