Oil bath filters don't filter at all when too dry, have a lot of restriction when too wet. The balance is hard to get. A modern paper filter is a great idea. My tractor has provisions for both but I only use the paper cartridge filter.

You might want to spend some time walking around the used tractor lots and checking out dry filters for other tractors. If you take some careful measurements you should be able to find something that fits and looks good.
